It’s Finally Getting Colder

I enjoy spring and summer as much as the next person, but I also enjoy the melancholy days of fall and winter.  I really enjoy hiking when it’s cold, snowy, and generally miserable.

A lot of people probably think that’s crazy, but there’s something nice about stomping around in the quiet, cold woods with a 35 or 40 pound pack for a few hours knowing the likelihood of bumping into anyone else is pretty much nil.  And when you can get a crazy friend to go with you?  Well, there’s nothing better.  Not to mention the fact that when you’re done stomping through the leaves/snow/ice/creek/mud/whatever, it’s time to grab some comfort food.  And food tastes so much better when you’re tired, a little beat up, and actually hungry.

And for that, it’s hard to beat a nice open-face roast beef sandwich, as in “open your face and shove it in”.

So get your ass outside no matter what the weather.  Sweat, eat, drink, and be merry!
